In Zion, both State curfew laws and the City’s curfew ordinance are applied. Curfew in Zion contains three linked provisions and a person must be in violation of all three provisions to be in violation of curfew.
Curfew Hours
- Between 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday
- Between 11:00 p.m. on Sunday to Thursday, inclusive and 6:00 a.m. on the following day
Curfew Ages
- Illinois state law applies to persons under the age of 17. Note: An Illinois driver’s license is not valid during curfew hours for persons under the age of 17.
- Zion’s Ordinance applies to persons under the age of 18. The laws do not apply to persons who are accompanied by responsible adults at least 18 years of age.
Curfew Stipulations
Curfew laws apply only in public places. For example, curfew applies to persons in public buildings, walking in public places, or driving their cars on public streets. Curfew laws do not apply to persons visiting at a private residence, or those working at an occupation authorized for persons less than 17 years of age by the State of Illinois.
City’s Ordinance does not apply to persons during their participation in school-related activities. Curfew laws are intended to support the safety and security of young people. Many cities have enacted ordinances that are more restrictive than the State’s under-17 law and you should view that community’s website for additional information.
