Curfew Laws in the City of Zion

In Zion, both State of Illinois curfew laws and the City’s Curfew Ordinance are enforced. A curfew violation occurs only when all three linked provisions—time, age, and location—are met.

Curfew Hours

  1. Between 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday
  2. Between 11:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, inclusive, and 6:00 a.m. the following day

Curfew Ages

  1. Illinois State Law applies to persons under the age of 17. Note: An Illinois driver’s license is not valid during curfew hours for persons under 17.
  2. Zion’s City Ordinance applies to persons under the age of 18. The law does not apply to those accompanied by a responsible adult at least 18 years of age.

Curfew Stipulations

Curfew laws apply only in public places, such as:

  • Public buildings
  • Walking in public spaces
  • Driving on public streets

Curfew does not apply to individuals:

  • Visiting a private residence
  • Working at a job legally authorized for persons under 17
  • Participating in school-related activities

Curfew laws are designed to protect the safety and well-being of youth in our community. Other cities may have stricter curfew ordinances — residents are encouraged to check local laws when visiting neighboring areas.
