Illinois Concealed Carry Law
The State of Illinois enacted a concealed carry law, allowing qualified individuals to carry a firearm within the state. The Firearm Concealed Carry Act provides regulations and answers to frequently asked questions about the new law.
In addition to defining how individuals may carry firearms, the law allowed certain municipalities to enact bans on assault-type weapons. The City of Zion took no action on such a ban, citing the narrow 10-day legislative window for enactment and uncertainty about whether non–home rule communities like Zion had authority to do so.
The #1 Question We Want To Answer:
Do I have to tell a police officer I am carrying a weapon?
Yes. You are required to inform a police officer if you are carrying a firearm when asked, and you must present your Concealed Carry License (CCL) for verification. Failure to do so is a Class B Misdemeanor and may result in arrest and fines.
