🐾 Animal Control Services – City of Zion

The City of Zion provides animal control services for domesticated animals through Community Service Officers (CSOs). These services help protect the health, safety, and welfare of people and pets throughout the city.

CSOs patrol for loose dogs and cats and respond to calls related to domestic animal concerns.

🐶 General Pet Owner Responsibilities

  • Maintain up-to-date rabies vaccinations and annual pet licenses.
  • Ensure your pet wears a collar with a current rabies tag.
  • Keep your dog leashed when off your property.
  • Carry clean-up equipment when off your property with your pet.
  • Clean up after your pet on all public or private property (except your own).
  • Prevent your pet from trespassing, running loose, or being left unattended.
  • Do not leave pets in vehicles during extreme weather.
  • Prevent your dog from intimidating, attacking, or threatening others.

🐾 Animal Impound Procedures

  • All stray or lost pets collected by Zion Police are held at the city animal facility.
  • Animals are scanned for microchips and rabies tags; owners are contacted when possible.
  • Pet recovery is available 24/7. Call (847) 872-8000 to inquire.
  • Unclaimed animals are transferred to the Lake County Animal Care & Control facility in Libertyville. Call (847) 377-4700

*A nominal fee may be charged for the care and feeding of your pet at time of retrieval.

  1. Running at Large
  2. Failure to Control Defecation
  3. Rabies Vaccination Non-Compliance
  4. Biting/Attacking Behavior
  5. Disturbing the Peace

Fines begin at $25 per citation for a first offense, $100 for a second, and $200 for third offenses.

🐕 Animal Relinquishments

The Zion Police Department does not accept animal relinquishments. Please contact Lake County Animal Care & Control at (847) 377-4700

📦 Animal Traps

Traps provided by CSOs are for the capture of dogs and cats only. For wildlife capture, CSOs can provide referrals to fee-based services.
