Battalion Chief Eric Troy
BC Troy has been with ZFRD since October 1997 and is the Shift 3 commander. BC Troy is responsible for overseeing many areas of the department; radio and all areas of communications, being the main liaison to our dispatchers and communications center, and being a driver’s license third-party tester name just a few of his main duties. BC Troy was a public safety diver for over 11 years, on the Lake County Specialized Response Team for high angle, trench, structural collapse and confined space for many years, and was also a fire investigator. BC Troy has been an IDPH paramedic since 1995, has an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science Technology from the College of Lake County, is a certified Fire Department Incident Safety Officer through the Office of the State Fire Marshal among numerous other fire and EMS certifications.
Battalion Chief Jason Messick
BC Messick was born and raised in Zion and graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a Sports Management minor from Augustana University, before deciding a career in Fire/EMS was his calling. BC Messick is the Shift 2 commander, and oversees the buildings and grounds of both of our fire stations, which keeps him quite busy. BC Messick has been a paramedic for over 20 years and is also a fire investigator and a certified Fire Department Incident Safety Officer among numerous other fire and EMS certifications.
Battalion Chief Tim Urbanik
BC Urbanik was born and raised locally, graduated from Warren Township High School and started his career with ZFRD in 2002. BC Urbanik is the Shift 1 commander and oversees all areas of firefighter fitness and wellness – a very important area of emphasis for our firefighter/paramedics. BC Urbanik completed the National Fire Academy’s Managing Officer program, and has a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois – Chicago. He is also a National Registry paramedic, an OSFM Fire Department Training Program Manager, and a Fire Department Incident Safety Officer among many other fire and EMS certifications.
Battalion Chief Rocco Campanella
BC Campanella was born and raised locally and has been a dedicated member of multiple area fire departments since the early 1990’s. BC Campanella is the Shift 4 commander and oversees our vehicle and equipment maintenance division as well as our Public Education activity. BC Campanella completed the National Fire Academy’s Managing Officer Program, and has a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Concordia University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science Management from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. BC Campanella is also a certified Chief Fire Officer through the Office of the State Fire Marshal, along with numerous other fire and EMS certifications.
