Jason Messick

BC Messick was born and raised in Zion and graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School before earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a Sports Management minor from Augustana University. He is the Shift 2 commander and manages buildings and grounds for both fire stations. BC Messick has been a paramedic for over 20 years and is also a fire investigator and certified Fire Department Incident Safety Officer, among numerous other fire and EMS certifications.

Tim Urbanik

BC Urbanik was born and raised locally, graduated from Warren Township High School, and joined ZFRD in 2002. As Shift 3 commander, he oversees firefighter fitness and wellness. He completed the National Fire Academy’s Managing Officer Program and holds a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois – Chicago. BC Urbanik is a National Registry paramedic, an OSFM Fire Department Training Program Manager, and a Fire Department Incident Safety Officer, among other fire and EMS certifications.

Rocco Campanella

BC Campanella was born and raised locally and has been a dedicated member of several area fire departments since the early 1990s. As Shift 4 commander, he oversees vehicle and equipment maintenance and leads Public Education initiatives. He completed the National Fire Academy’s Managing Officer Program, holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Concordia University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science Management from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. BC Campanella is also a certified Chief Fire Officer through the Office of the State Fire Marshal and holds numerous fire and EMS certifications.

Nick Urbanik

BC Urbanik was born in Wadsworth and graduated from Warren Township High School. He has faithfully served ZFRD since 2008. As Shift 1 commander, he manages station supplies, assists with buildings and grounds, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and the department’s peer support initiative. BC Urbanik holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Wisconsin – Parkside. He has been a paramedic for 20 years, a longstanding member of the Lake and McHenry County Hazardous Materials Special Response Team, and is a certified Fire Department Incident Safety Officer.

Administrative Assistant
Tasha Obregon

Tasha has been with ZFRD since 2020 and supports the staff and administration of our department in many ways. Her responsibilities include payroll, Fire Prevention Bureau support, billing and invoicing, record keeping, and managing daily operational needs. She is often the first smiling face visitors see when entering Station 1 and takes pride in helping our residents and guests in any way possible.
