CITY OF ZION, IL – INSPECTOR
The City of Zion is seeking a full-time Inspector. The City of Zion, with 145+ employees, is located 32 miles north of Chicago, IL and south of Milwaukee, WI. It is a historic and beautiful community. The Inspector reports to the Building Department Director and is responsible for enforcing provisions of the Building Code through on-site building inspections; responding to inquiries from the public and providing interpretation of City’s rules and regulations to involved parties.
The City of Zion is seeking a safety-focused individual, who works well independently, with strong communication, interpersonal, and writing skills. A High School Diploma/GED, valid Driver’s License, minimum 1 year of experience in property maintenance, zoning codes or law enforcement, 1 year of practical experience in construction/building inspection and familiarity with Microsoft Suite is required. Must also have a working knowledge of ICC Codes, familiarity with City geography and the ability to lift to 50 lbs. when required. Speaking Spanish is a plus.

CITY OF ZION, IL– SERVICE TECHNICIANS
The City of Zion is seeking full-time Service Technicians. The City of Zion, with 145+ employees, is located 32 miles north of Chicago, IL and south of Milwaukee, WI. It is a historic and beautiful community with thriving and charming downtown stamped concrete sidewalks surrounded by unique storefronts of coffee shop cafes, boutique shops and bistro restaurants. The Service Technician reports to the Superintendent of Operations and is responsible for operating a variety of vehicles, equipment, and hand tools for street construction, maintenance, and repair projects; the repair of road and alley surfaces; repair and patching of sidewalks and other concrete surfaces located within the City; cleaning, rebuilding and installing storm and sanitary sewers, manholes and catch basins; and installing, repairing and maintaining water mains, service lines, meters, fire hydrants, valves and boxes. This position is responsible for the safety and integrity of the water system. The Service Technician also fells dead and/or diseased trees; trims trees through use of aerial truck and uses brush chipper to mulch; is responsible for snow removal and ice salting; street sweeping; establishing traffic control for on-site workers; assists with holiday projects; investigates citizens complains, and reports accidents, code violations and/or illegal parking.
The City of Zion is seeking a safety-focused individual, who works well independently, with strong communication and interpersonal skills, is willing to use and operate a variety of tools and equipment and will work in inclement weather. A High School Diploma/GED and a valid Illinois Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within one (1) year of employment, is required. Also required is an understanding of the methods, procedures, and materials used in PW construction, maintenance and repair operations and willingness to be available 24/7. Hourly rate starts at $25.07 with the availability to work overtime and receive on-call pay.
