Chief's Welcome
Welcome to the Zion Fire Rescue Department Web page. The
information contained in our site should be helpful in introducing
you to services provided by the officers and members
of the
Zion Fire Rescue Department.
The Zion Fire Rescue Department consists of 26 sworn personnel,
including three Battalion Chief/Paramedics, three lieutenant/Paramedics,
18 Firefighter/Paramedics, one Battalion Chief/Fire Inspector
and a Fire Chief. There are 24 shift personnel, working 24
hours on duty and 48 hours off duty, and 3 daytime personnel.
The 24 shift personnel consists of 3 shifts each with a Battalion
Chief/Paramedic who serves as the shift commander, a Lieutenant/Paramedic
who serves as the Assistant Shift Commander and 6 Firefighter/Paramedics.
In addition there are 3 daytime personnel consisting of the Fire Chief, Battalion Chief / Fire Marshal, and an Administrative
Assistant.
The Fire Chief is responsible for the daily administration
within the Fire Department as well as the planning for future
needs of the department and the city.
The Administrative
Assistance works with the Chief to maintain all of the
records of the department and also works with the Fire
Marshal in the Fire Prevention Bureau.
The Battalion Chief
/ Fire Marshall is in charge of the Fire Prevention Bureau
and responsible for all inspections and plan reviews within
the city
The Zion Fire Rescue Department provides emergency services
for fire suppression, emergency care and transport, and specialized
rescue. Our department is also part of the Lake County Specialized
Response Team which consists of 5 separate disciplines: Confined
Space rescue, High Angle rescue, Structural Collapse, Trench
rescue, and Tunnel rescue. Members of our department and
have received training and serve on these technical rescue
response teams. In addition we also have an Underwater
Rescue Team for any type of water rescue operation. All
divers on our team are qualified rescue divers through
Dive Rescue International. Each person maintains a standard
training regime consisting of safety checks, pool and open
water dives. Advanced divers on the Zion Fire Rescue Department
Dive Team are trained as Medical Divers, Advanced Rescue
Divers, and
Ice Divers qualified in operations during winter rescue operations.
In addition to all of the above mentioned emergency services
our department also
provides extensive public education in
many areas. We offer training in Fire Extinguishers, Fire
Safety including E.D.I.T.H. and Stop-Drop-Roll, and special
programs every year during Fire Prevention Week.
