Mayor's Safe Halloween Walk

It's Time for the

Mayor's SAFE

The leaves are falling and the cool crisp air of autumn has arrived in the
boo-tiful City of Zion.

That can only mean it must be time for Halloween and the Mayor’s Annual Safewalk event throughout downtown Zion.

Usually on the last on the last Saturday of October from 11:00 – 2:00 Sheridan Road will be filled with children dressed as ghosts, goblins, cowboys and a few fairy princesses now and then.  Offered as an alternative to the traditional door-to-door trick or treat experience, our local businesses provide candy and goodies to more than 1500 guests.  Parents also benefit as merchants offer coupons, sales and information about opportunities for upcoming holiday shopping.

The City also adds a bit of fun by conducting a drawing from all of the returned scavenger hunt cards.  Two lucky winners will each receive a brand new bicycle donated by the Zion Benton Lions Club organization.

If you are a business in the downtown area please contact the Office of Economic Development at (847) 746-4056 so we can be sure to include you on our scavenger hunt map.  We also welcome non-downtown businesses and organizations that would like to participate in this opportunity to reach hundreds and hundreds of area children and parents choosing to make Zion part of their autumn fun.  The more stops along the route, the better the experience for the children and the more opportunity to get your business or group information out to the community.

The route begins at the dome, located in the 2500 block of Sheridan Road.  Here Mayor Harrison and the First Lady will greet their guests and provide the Safewalk rules such as you must be in costume, under age 14 and accompanied by an adult.

The Boo-line Trolley is also running throughout the month of October on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Decorated with lights and cobwebs, the fun includes stops at Culver’s, Bee Street, It’s All Good, Paige Turner Books and Applebee’s that are each offering special holiday discounts.

The day promises to be full of fun and surprises so come on out and join an event unique to Zion.  Get on board with all the fun this Halloween season and remember to Bee Safe!
