The Zion Fire Rescue Department is actively involved in
fire prevention activities
on a daily basis. The fire safety
inspections include each business, industry, multi-tenant
apartment building, nursing home, or school. Each of these
facilities are inspected by the Zion Fire Rescue Department
on a yearly basis. Most of these inspections are done by
the on duty shift personnel during their regular tour of
duty. They check for fire safety violations to ensure the
safety of the public, occupants and owners of the facilities.
In addition to the inspections, the
Fire Prevention Bureau is also responsible for monitoring
the installation, servicing, and testing of fire alarm
systems, sprinkler systems, and automatic suppression
systems. These types of systems are found
industrial, and businesses with high hazards.
The Zion Fire Rescue Department also works in conjunction
with other departments,
such as the Building Department,
and other agencies, such as the State of Illinois Fire
Marshal's office. We work with the local Building Department
construction and new businesses in town
to assure their compliance with the fire codes currently
used in the city. We work closely with the State Fire Marshal's
office in monitoring the installation, removal and inspection
of underground fuel tanks.
We also work together to inspect
Day Care Centers, Schools, Self-Serve gas stations and
Hotel / Motel occupancies.
