Renovations are now underway in the recently closed restaurant at 31st and Sheridan.  Soon the new Hussey’s Restaurant will be open and owner Mike Hussey is hoping to appeal to the 35 and up consumer who enjoys great food with friends in an upbeat casual setting.  This location has seen prior operations struggle with poor management, pricing, menu and service, but Hussey’s traditional American bar and grill concept should have staying power since it already enjoys a strong local following. 

Part of the new look will be an outdoor patio and fireplace that will take advantage of its Sheridan Road location.  The interior has also undergone a transformation with walls being removed to create more open sight lines and add natural lighting.  A more modern, eclectic motif should give diners an entirely new experience. 

But it isn’t all about the new at Hussey’s.  The menu will include a few all time Zion favorites such as the famous Rook’s broasted chicken and Green River soda.  Add onion rings and strawberry rhubarb pie and many of our Zion natives will be able to relive some of their fondest dining memories again.

Hussey’s is not about fine dining or fast food.  It is about creating an inviting alternative to the downtown marketplace to keep entertainment and dining revenues in Zion rather than flowing to other communities such as Gurnee and Kenosha.  The project will generate new jobs, sales taxes and enhance the restaurant offerings for our residents as well as some of the nearly three million annual visitors to our city between April and October.

Look for Hussey’s to open in mid-June, hopefully in time for Nostalgia Days coming on June 19th.  The restaurant will offer senior specials and group catering along with nightly dinner features.  Hussey’s will serve lunch and dinner everyday with a weekend breakfast that simply must be experienced to be appreciated.
