David Knabel
Director
I am proud to serve my home town as the Director of the Accounts and Finance Department and I have been with the City of Zion since 2012. Prior to 2012 I worked as the City’s independent auditor for fourteen years. I currently supervise a staff of 5 full-time employees who have over 60 years of experience in providing assistance to the City’s residents.
I am responsible for managing the financial position of the City, which includes oversight of payment of bills, payroll, budgeting, tax levy preparation and daily cash management.
I graduated Zion-Benton High School in 1994 and from University of Wisconsin-Parkside in May of 1999 with my Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting. I then obtained my CPA and went on to a career in public accounting. During my 14 years in public accounting, I audited many municipalities and school districts and acted as a contracted accountant for many others. I was a City of Zion resident for the first 23 years of my life and then moved to Wisconsin when I took a new job in Racine and got married to my wife Katie.
I am glad to have the opportunity to return to his home town and give back to the residents by keeping the City on a solid financial foundation and ensuring a prosperous future for all those who are committed to making the City a better place to reside.
